A two-storey building under construction has collapsed during the decking process at Craig Street in the Shomolu area of Lagos.

The structure that collapsed was one of two buildings being constructed at the site, and the cause of the incident has not been determined at the time of this report.

Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported as workers escaped the scene unharmed prior to the arrival of emergency responders.

The pillars of the collapsed building fell on a nearby church, which was partially damaged; however, miraculously, no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained as worshippers in the church also escaped unscathed.

A coordinated search of the incident scene was conducted to ensure no victims were trapped under the collapsed building.

The construction yard has been immediately cordoned off, and public enlightenment and sensitization were carried out by officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, on the need to stay away from the collapsed site.
