Supporters of the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, have trooped to the speaker’s Lodge at Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday morning.
Some of the supporters, wearing several pro-Obasa vests and caps, claimed that they were the scene to welcome the impeached speaker back to Lagos.
Lagos Panorama had earlier reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a meeting with the Lagos State House of Assembly, GAC, and Obasa in Abuja to examine the circumstances surrounding his removal.
The President, having been presented with both sides of the argument, is reported to have ultimately approved Obasa’s removal. Thirty-three lawmakers appended their signatures to the impeachment notice and participated in the impeachment proceedings on Monday, 13 January Lagos
At the time of the impeachment, Obasa was in the United States. He made an unsuccessful attempt to meet with the President during his recent visit to the UAE, which led to his decision to return to Abuja to request a meeting.
Following the President’s final ruling, Obasa is expected to return to Lagos.
His supporters are being organized to welcome him back to the state. As stated by Segun Balogun JP, Chairman of Ward F in Agege Local Government, all ward, zonal and LG executives and stakeholders have been directed to meet at Hon Mudashiru Obasa’s residence in Ikeja GRA.
Interestingly, the chosen venue is the Speaker’s lodge, the official residence of the state’s number three citizen, which has been occupied by Obasa since his removal on Monday, 13 January 2025.
