Super Falcons still awaiting $100,000 largesse, match bonuses, reveals Ajibade

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade disclosed that the Federal Government has not fulfilled its promise of $100,000 to each player and official of the women’s national team for their African Women’s Cup of Nations win in Morocco, as stated on soccernet.ng.

In the final match of the competition, Justin Madugu’s side came from behind to defeat Morocco, reversing a two-goal halftime deficit to win 3-2.

During the trophy unveiling ceremony, Ajibade, the WAFCON 2024 Player of the Tournament, gave a speech, urging the NFF to invest in facilities that would enhance the standard of football, enabling the Super Falcons to compete globally, in the presence of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Twinner

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded the Super Falcons $1,000,000 for winning the 2024 WAFCON, doubling the $500,000 awarded to the WAFCON 2022 winner.

President Tinubu then announced that each player would receive $100,000 (in naira equivalent, approximately ₦153 million), while 11 technical crewmembers would receive $50,000 (₦75.6 million).

All the players and staff were conferred with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and each team member was also given a furnished three-bedroom apartment in the “Renewed Hope Housing Estate.”

Furthermore, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, pledged ₦10 million in cash to each team member (players and staff).

However, the Super Falcons captain has refuted claims that the Nigerian government has fulfilled its promises, stating that none have been implemented.

“We have not received our money. They haven’t delivered it. They will pay,” the former Atletico Madrid midfielder said in an interview with Chude.

“All the promises we’ve been hearing, none have been fulfilled, so people should know, but hopefully soon. When they pay, it’ll be out there. Even our match bonuses and everything, it’s still a work in progress.”
