A man identified as Obinna tragically lost his life in a fire that engulfed his apartment in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State while he was sleeping.

A man identified as Obinna tragically lost his life in a fire that engulfed his apartment in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State while he was sleeping.

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.

According to Hundeyin, the fire broke out on Saturday at around 7:30 p.m. at No. 13 Olarenwaju Street, off Oki Street, Iyana-Ipaja

The Oke-Odo Police Division responded to a distress call from a resident of the building.

“Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer immediately arrived at the scene with officers from the division. The fire service was alerted, and by the time the flames were extinguished, a tenant, Obinna who had been sleeping in his room, was found burnt to death,” Hundeyin said.

Photos of both the victim and the damaged building were taken as part of the investigation. The remains of the deceased have been evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Yaba for a post-mortem examination.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
