The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a sustainable and people-centred housing ecosystem, as he called for renewed adherence to the core values of integrity, transparency, and quality in the real estate industry.

The Governor, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Barrister Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, stated this at the Real Estate Discussions and Awards (REDA 2025) held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The event, themed “Back to the Basics – The Future of Real Estate,” was attended by key players, innovators, professionals and other stakeholders from the housing and construction sectors to deliberate on the future of the real estate industry.

In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that for the sector to thrive and remain credible, stakeholders must return to the fundamental values that define genuine real estate practice, integrity, transparency, quality, and sustainability.

He said: “Going back to the basics means doing things right, ensuring fairness in every deal, and building homes that are safe, durable, and people-centred. It also means protecting our environment and planning responsibly so that every development adds real value to our communities.”

The Governor noted that in Lagos, real estate represents more than physical structures; it reflects the hopes of families seeking homes, young people aspiring to ownership, and investors driving the State’s economic growth.

He stressed that proper planning, honesty in transactions, and adherence to regulations remain the pillars of a strong and sustainable housing industry.

Highlighting the State Government’s achievements in the housing sector, Sanwo-Olu cited ongoing efforts to deliver affordable housing schemes across various parts of the State, from Igbogbo to Ibeshe, Lekki to Egan and Badagry where 420 units of apartments were commissioned recently. The continuous protection of property buyers and investors through the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) is worth mentioning and highly commendable.

He further underscored the importance of leveraging technology and innovation to enhance planning, sales, and project delivery.

The event, which recognised outstanding contributions within Nigeria’s real estate landscape, also featured high-level discussions on sustainability, ethics, and the evolving trends shaping the future of the industry.

Governor Sanwo-Olu congratulated all award recipients, describing their achievements as a testament to professionalism, creativity, and excellence that continue to inspire confidence in the sector.
