A resident of Ikeja Local Government has commended the Executive Chairman, Hon. Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), for the administration’s proactive flood prevention efforts, following recent heavy rainfall that left major parts of the council area largely flood-free.

In a voice message expressing appreciation, the resident praised the timely desilting of drainage channels and clearing of blocked gutters carried out by the local government, noting that the intervention significantly reduced flooding in areas previously known for severe waterlogging.

According to the resident, notorious flood-prone locations, including the underbridge axis and the General Hospital junction, remained largely accessible despite the downpour.

The resident recalled that in previous years, floodwaters often lingered for days, submerging vehicles and disrupting movement. This time, however, the rainwater drained away quickly, indicating that the drainage channels had been effectively cleared.

“For the first time in years, there was no flooding under the bridge. If it had flooded like before, many cars would have been submerged. The water drained away quickly, showing that the gutters were properly cleared. Even around the General Hospital junction, movement was seamless,” the resident said.

The resident also applauded Chairman AKOD for delivering on his promise of responsive and people-centred governance, describing him as a leader who listens to residents and provides practical solutions to community challenges.

While expressing gratitude for the intervention, the resident affirmed that the people of Ikeja would continue to support initiatives that improve public welfare while constructively holding the administration accountable.

The commendation highlights the growing impact of the environmental sanitation and drainage maintenance programmes being implemented under the AKOD administration’s I.K.E.J.A. Agenda, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, public safety and improved living conditions for residents.

For many residents, the visible results of these proactive measures reinforce confidence in the local government’s commitment to building a cleaner, safer and more resilient Ikeja.
