Police dispel rumour of woman killing stepson in Ikotun

The police in Lagos State, yesterday, faulted reports that trended on social media on Wednesday that a woman, simply identified as Mrs. Obi, killed her stepson, Precious Obi, in Abaranje, Ikotun area of the state.

The report had claimed that the woman killed the boy because he was constantly disturbing her, and that the stepmother has been subjecting the seven-year-old boy to various forms of punishment with the recent one leading to his death.

It further claimed that after realising what she had done, that she tried to dispose of the corpse, but luck ran out of her as she was spotted by a neighbour.

A video associated with the story showed the corpse of the young boy being carried out from their room. But reacting to the video, spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, warned residents to stop peddling rumours.

“The woman took the boy to the Igando General Hospital, where he gave up the ghost, but she rushed him back home out of panic. She didn’t know what to do and that was why she took his body back home. People around said the woman killed him.

“The boy has been buried and the woman has returned to her family. She didn’t commit any crime, there was no foul play,” Hundeyin explained.
