Peter Rufai, former Super Eagles goalkeeper, dies at 61

Former Nigerian international and Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, has passed away.

Former Nigerian international and Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, has passed away.

Rufai died on Thursday after a prolonged illness.

He was 61 years old. Fondly called Dodomayana, Rufai was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s finest goalkeepers.

Over the course of his twenty-year playing career, Rufai played for clubs in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain.

Furthermore, he represented Nigeria at two World Cups and two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Rufai’s death comes as the football world pays tribute to Liverpool forward Diogo Jota.

Earlier in the day, Jota died in a car accident in Spain, along with his brother.
