Two children, Gbolahan and Olayinka Atolagbe on Saturday, died when the fence of the house adjacent to 25 Ajao Street, Olainukan Bus Stop, Ishawo, Ikorodu collapsed on a room they were living.

The fence, it was learnt, collapsed during yesterday’s heavy downpour. In a video posted on a social media platform, a woman called for help including requesting for emergency agencies to come to the scene to complement the un-coordinated rescue efforts.

The bodies of the two children were recovered following the rescue operation. The South-West Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, later confirmed the incident, revealing that the children, Rakib Atolagbe, nine, and Mujib Atolagbe, seven, were trapped and efforts to rescue them were futile.

Farinloye noted that it was very unfortunate that the distress call was not properly channeled to those who have the responsibility to save the lives of the children at the right time. He added that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) was on ground to assess the situation.
