Onikotun seeks Lagos State Govt support to build new palace

The Onikotun of Ikotun,Oba Azeez Gbadabiu Asiwaju has made an appeal to the Governor of Lagos State,Babajide Sanwo-Olu to render financial support towards the early completion of the new king’s palace.

The monarch made the appeal on Thursday 20th May,2021 during the Foundation Laying Ceremony of the palace building in Ikotun,as part of activities marking his 20th Year Coronation Anniversary.

Oba Gbadabiu stated that the rationale behind the construction of the new palace is to accord the necessary royal status to traditional institution in the state and also make the palace a tourist centre that will be a pride of all the good people of Ikotun and Lagos State in general.

The Oba, while acknowledging the support rendered by indiviuals, various groups and organisations in the past five years towards the construction of the palace, added that the journey is still far as regards early completion of the project and as such, called on prominent indigenes, residents and organisatiions within and outside Ikotun to contribute to the project.

He commended the Ikotun Day Committee, the body in charge of raising funds for the palace building and its patron, Alhaji Muniru Bankole, the Chief Executive Officer of Medview Airline, for their dedication and commitment towards ensuring that the palace project is a success story.

The Oba said ” let me use this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone who has contributed in cash and kind towards the building of the new palace”.He continued, ” It is my desire that this ultra modern oba’s palace, which is the first of its kind in the entire Alimosho Local Government Area will be ready for commissioning before his 25th Coronation Anniversary”.

The C.E.O. of Medview Airline, Alhaji Bankole,a prominent indegene of Ikotun,who was also in attendance at the event, commended Oba Gbadabiu for his love and commitment to the growth and development of Ikotun, adding that the Oba as the initiator of the palace project,has demonstrated that he is not a selfish leader, because the palace is not his personal property, but the asset of the entire people of Ikotun.

Alhaji Bankole urged all well meaning individuals, groups and organisations within and outside Ikotun to contribute to the building of the palace and ensure its early completion, adding that nothing is too little as donation to the project.

Speaking on the architectural design of the new palace, the project manager for Future Planner Architects and Big Hut Projects Nigeria Limited, the two construction companies handling the palace building,Engr. Osayande Harry explained that the new palace is a two story building designed to look like the Pentagon building in the United States of America, and that on completion, the edifice will be a source of pride to all the good people of Ikotun.

In response to the appeal made earlier by Oba Gbadabiu, before performing the turning of the sord for construction of the palace, different donations were received from dignitaries in attendance at the ceremony.The donations were mainly cash and various building materials like blocks,cements,sands and iron rods.

Among dignitaries who attended the event are,the Chief Imam of Ikotun Central Mosque, Alhaji Marufdeen Wahab Balogun, the Aare Musulimu of Ikotun Central Mosque, Alhaji Obabiyi Noah, Chairman of Ikotun Central Mosque, Alhaji Obabiyi Usman, Chairman of Ikotun Day Committee, Chief Akeem Olarenwaju and other members of the committee, many traditional and honorary chiefs, including the newly installed Balogun of Ikotun , Chief Rabiu Hassan.
