The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has been re-elected for a second term in office.
Ojelabi emerged through a consensus arrangement at the party’s state congress held on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, where no fewer than 2,000 delegates from across the state endorsed the State Executive Committee list by voice affirmation.
Other members of the executive returned through consensus include Mr Moshood Mayegun (Deputy Chairman), Dr Adeola Jokomba (Secretary), and Mr Oluseye Oladejo (Publicity Secretary). Also re-elected were Mrs Folashade Bakare (Legal Adviser), Mrs Adewunmi Ladigbolu (Assistant Legal Adviser), Mr Abiodun Ayigbe (Treasurer), Mr Banjo Adedoyin-Wasiu (Financial Secretary), Mr Ayodele Adewale (Organising Secretary), and Mr Seriki Muritala (Youth Leader), among others.
Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Mrs Stella Okotete, who announced the consensus list, described Lagos as the “heartbeat of progressive politics” and the proud home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She noted that the state remains a foundation of progressive ideology, discipline, inclusion, and strategic leadership.
Okotete stated that the congress was conducted in strict compliance with Article 20 of the party’s constitution, emphasising that the process must remain democratic, transparent, and orderly.
She reminded aspirants and delegates that eligibility to contest and vote was guided by constitutional provisions, including proper registration, payment of prescribed fees, and fulfilment of other stipulated requirements.
“This congress is not a contest of enemies but of progressive family members united by ideology,” she said, urging members to respect the outcome and prioritise unity.
In his remarks, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the exercise as a demonstration of unity and organisational strength, declaring that the Lagos APC had once again set a national benchmark.
“We have shown that the party structure in Lagos is second to none in the country. The party is supreme and strengthened by unity of purpose,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu paid tribute to President Tinubu for his leadership and mentorship, which he said laid the foundation for the party’s enduring structure in the state. He urged the re-elected executives to deepen inclusivity, fairness, and equity, while sustaining the party’s dominance and grassroots mobilisation across the 57 local government areas and local council development areas.
The governor also acknowledged the contributions of members of the National Assembly, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Governor’s Advisory Council, state cabinet members, council chairmen, and party leaders at various levels.
In his acceptance speech, Ojelabi thanked delegates and party leaders for the renewed mandate, pledging to consolidate past achievements while intensifying reconciliation, mobilisation, and inclusive leadership across the state.
He assured members that the executive would maintain discipline within the party, strengthen its political dominance in Lagos, and align with the national leadership to advance the objectives of the APC.
The congress concluded on a celebratory note, with party faithful expressing confidence that the renewed mandate would further stabilise the party and position it strongly for future electoral engagements in the state.
