ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed more than 2,000 food packs to residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat hunger, support vulnerable households and strengthen livelihoods across Nigeria.

The donation was made through the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank Initiative at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme aimed at improving access to essential food supplies and supporting communities in need.

Speaking at the distribution exercise, Folaranmi Jemirin, Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, disclosed that the bank has distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since the initiative was launched in 2023.

Jemirin said the initiative aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) — Zero Hunger, while reflecting the bank’s commitment to creating sustainable social impact in its host communities.

“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development. Through our Food Bank Initiative, we are not only providing relief to vulnerable families but also supporting the global goal of ending hunger and ensuring food security for all,” he said.

He added that the bank’s interventions in Abeokuta go beyond food distribution, with investments spanning education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment, social welfare and other community-focused initiatives.

According to him, the outreach is designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to restore hope and strengthen families and communities.

“This initiative is about more than distributing food items. It is about restoring hope, strengthening communities, uplifting families, and providing meaningful support that contributes to their wellbeing. We are grateful to the Catholic Diocese and all our partners whose collaboration has made this outreach possible,” Jemirin added.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, commended Fidelity Bank for its continued commitment to humanitarian causes and community development.

Olagbaju described the initiative as a demonstration of compassion and urged other organisations to emulate the bank’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society.

“We sincerely appreciate Fidelity Bank for counting the Abeokuta community worthy of benefiting from this noble initiative. This gesture reflects a genuine compassion and a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society,” he said.

Launched in 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has emerged as one of the bank’s major social intervention programmes, providing food assistance to vulnerable households across Nigeria through partnerships with religious institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders.
