NUJ urges President Tinubu to expedite revitalisation of Calabar port, Calabar-Uyo federal highway

The Cross River State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, headed by Comrade Gill Nsa-Abasi has reminded President Bola Tinubu not to forget his promise to revitalize the Calabar seaport.

They also appealed to the Minister of Works to compel contractors handling the construction of the Calabar-Uyo federal highway, a major gateway to the State, to speed up work as the rainy season approaches.

These calls were part of the NUJ Cross River State 11-point communique at the end of their congress held over the weekend.

The communique was signed by Comrade Ubon Ekanem, of the ForeFront magazine, Comr. Nakanda Iyadim and Comr. Iloke Egbe as
Secretary.

The communique stressed that the highway, when completed, will ameliorate the untold hardship faced presently by commuters.

The NUJ reminded the President that he had made promises to fix the Calabar port at different foras when he visited the State to campaign before the presidential election last year.

They commended the Federal Government for the recent approval of the construction of Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, which they agreed that upon completion would boost economic potentials of the country and the socio-economic base of the State.

They used the opportunity to laud Governor Bassey Edet Otu over the level of urban renewal and infrastructural development projects ongoing in the State.

They disclosed that the facelift has gone a long way to restore the aesthetic landscape of the State capital.

The Congress strongly commended the Governor on the bold step taken to sanitize the State payroll system, but appealed for proactive measures to be taken to avoid more hardship in the face of the current economic situation in the country.
