NIMC retirees write Tinubu over non-payment of terminal benefits

Retirees of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have demanded for “proper payment of their terminal benefits,” even as they criticised the management of the commission for failing to implement the condition of service approved in September 2021.

Retirees of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have demanded for “proper payment of their terminal benefits,” even as they criticised the management of the commission for failing to implement the condition of service approved in September 2021.

In a letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where they appealed for his intervention, the senior citizens who retired from the NIMC in 2022, said life had become unbearable for them, disclosing that four of them had died because of their inability to afford hospital bills.

According to them, “since our retirement in 2022, we have been in a very bad financial situation. About four of our retired colleagues have died due to their inability to afford their hospital bills and various dependent relatives of the retirees were also thrown into very serious hardship.”

They appealed to the president not to only ensure the payment of their terminal benefits but also the payment “of our outstanding balance of arrears of our salaries from September 2021 as approved in NIMC condition of service.”

A letter signed by Olukayode Joseph, Sunday Idugboe and Jalal Mohammad Lawal said the retirees had spent the statutory 35 years in the service of the Federal Government but were seconded to NIMC under the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.
