Nigeria’s first professor of criminology gone: Lawan mourns

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has expressed his sadness at the news of the death of Professor Femi Odekunle, Nigeria’s first professor of criminology.

In his statement released on Tuesday by Ola Awoniyi, Special Adviser(Media) to President of the Senate.

Lawan described Professor Odekunle’s death as a great loss to the academic community and to Nigeria.

He noted that Odekunle was a reputable scholar and an academic giant who imparted knowledge to his numerous students and served his country with his expertise in a discipline in which he was an authority.

Lawan recalled his immense contributions as a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC).

The Senate President condoled with the family of the departed professor.

He also commiserated with the Government and people of Osun State and the entire academic community over the irreparable loss.

Lawan prayed for the sweet repose of his great soul and for God to grant his loved ones the fortitude to bear his loss.

Invasion Of Abuja Residence Of Justice Mary OdilI: Police arrest 14 suspects for conspiracy, forgery, personation and criminal trespass

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a total of fourteen (14) suspects including the principal suspect - a fake Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) - for complicity in the failed criminal trespass on the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Odili on Friday, 29th October, 2021. The suspects were arrested following investigations conducted by detectives from the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) which clearly revealed the criminal involvement and individual roles the suspects played in the invasion of the residence of the revered Supreme Court Judge. Recall that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, on 1st November, 2021, affirmed that the Force did not authorize security operatives to carry out any assignment in or around the residence of Justice Mary Odili and directed the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) to carry out a discrete investigation with the aim of bringing the perpetrators to book.
