The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in a strategic collaboration with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the United States (U.S.), has jointly organised a specialised tactical operational training programme for commanders of the newly launched Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ACP), Muyiwa Adejobi, said the programme was in alignment with the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to enhance the capabilities of the SIS personnel and as well as ensuring the utmost professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
According to him, “specialised training is aimed and designed to prepare the trainees for the challenges associated with their new responsibility of taking up the lead positions in combating the scourge of kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, terrorism and other evolving challenges of crime confronting our society.
“The SIS is designed to anticipate, respond spontaneously, and manage crisis that is pivotal to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians as well as guaranteeing the supremacy of the state and the rule of law, thus protecting the integrity of the nation.”
In his remarks, the Director of Narcotics at the American Embassy, Jason Smith, representing the U.S. Ambassador, reiterated the commitment of the American Government in supporting the NPF to sustain the SIS and actualise its mandate of bequeathing a more secure society for Nigerians.
The IGP, while commending the U.S. Government, emphasised his anticipation that the specialised training for the commanders would significantly contribute to the overall effectiveness of the SIS in carrying out their vital mission to safeguard all citizens and uphold the rule of law within the country.”
