Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS), the umbrella body of community media in the country
has congratulated Muhammed Buhari on the 59th Independence Day anniversary; the celebration of Nigeria freedom from the British colonial master which comes up on every 1st of October of every year.
According to the press release from the office of the President of the association, Mr Tayo Aderinola who said
Nigeria as a nation has truly come a long way and deserves to celebrate having attained the status of “Giant of Africa”.
However, he commended FG for closing the borderlines to forestall unnecessary attack by the insurgents and other illegal business activities that have ravaged many of the Nothern states leaving the nation’s economy in a bad shape.

“Although, we’ve come a long but still have a long way to go. Notwithstanding, Buhari administration has tried in the area of infrastructural development, good health care delivery and transportation but still needs to do more in other areas like Security, education, Information technology, improved entrepreneurship which will go a long way in boosting the economy to an enviable height”.

He also noted that “the progressive way to move Nigeria forward is by practising true Federalism. Roads construction, for example, should be under the purview of States and local governments. It sounds sarcastic recently when the minister for Works and Housing Mr Babatunde Fashola stated that due to the huge amount requested by state governors after repairing Federal roads in their domains, President Muhammadu Buhari has asked them to stop fixing such roads. The question now is what now happens to the ongoing repairs by the Lagos state government on the Lagos/Badagry expressway that is in a very deplorable condition bringing serious hardship to motorists on the international route. So the state should maintain roads within their domain” Aderinola asserted.

“Most of the foreign investors who are willing to come and invest in Nigeria are retracing their steps, not because of any other thing but insecurity”.

“The moment FG is able to tackle the issue of insurgency and secure the borderline with a formidable internal security apparatus being put in place to put banditry and kidnapping of celebrities and foreign nationals in check, not leaving out improved educational system, food security, be rest assured that every other thing will fall into their normal places.

Aderinola further stressed that federal government must not rest their oars on the fight against corruption as this singular activity has eaten deep into the fabric of our nation which must not be treated with kids gloves as any attempt to relax or look elsewhere will spell doom to the nation and the generation yet unborn.
