Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, has graduated over 150 youths trained in Digital Marketing and Digital Fashion Illustration as part of efforts to promote digital inclusion, vocational skills development and economic independence.

The initiative reflects the administration’s human capital development agenda under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi, aimed at equipping residents with practical skills to become self-reliant and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Speaking on behalf of GIZ, Mr. Ayomikun Olugbode commended the Chairman for her commitment to empowering residents. He noted that while development organisations could provide ideas and support, dedicated local leadership was essential to translating such interventions into meaningful opportunities for the people.

The graduation ceremony was attended by the Executive Chairman; Leader of the House, Hon. Oluwatosin Afuape (SNR); Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. AbdulHameed Ayodele Alawaye; Supervisors; Special Advisers; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Tolulope Falope; and other management staff.

Addressing the graduands, Hon. Akindele urged them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to productive ventures, stressing that the ultimate objective of the training was to enable them to earn a living and build successful businesses.

“I believe in putting the right thread in the right hole. I am seeing future CEOs here. Don’t just get a certificate to boost your CV — learn to earn,” she said.

The Chairman disclosed that the Council had provided start-up kits and equipment for all beneficiaries to support the practical application of their newly acquired skills. She added that GIZ would provide ₦100,000 to each beneficiary, while a monitoring committee would be established to ensure the resources were judiciously utilised.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Council Chairman, GIZ and the facilitators, Mr. Gbenga Elebiyo and Mr. Fapounda Oluwabusayo Abraham, for their contributions to the successful implementation of the programme.

The graduation marks another step in Mosan-Okunola LCDA’s efforts to expand access to digital skills, strengthen vocational capacity and promote economic empowerment among young people.

Through the collaboration, the Council and its development partner seek to equip beneficiaries with the practical knowledge, tools and financial support needed to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
