Assembly withdraws appeal case against deputy gov over impeachment
Three months after the political imbroglio that rocked Ondo State, the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting finally took place for the first time, yesterday, with the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, presiding.

It was gathered that the development signified a potential resolution of the months-long political dispute between Aiyedatiwa and his boss, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
A top cabinet member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated: “The exco, chaired by Aiyedatiwa, who will preside over the council, marks a crucial step towards restoring harmony not only within the cabinet but also in the entire state.
“The intervention of Tinubu really did magic, and I believe that we are all on the same page towards prioritising the development of the state instead of unnecessary infighting.”
Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, details of the agenda for the meeting are still unknown.
MEANWHILE, the state’s House of Assembly and its Speaker, yesterday, withdrew the appeal filed before Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal against the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which stopped the planned impeachment of the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
At yesterday’s proceedings, counsel to the Speaker and the House, Dr. Peter Olatobura (SAN), told the three-member panel of Justices of the appellate court that he had the instructions of his clients to withdraw the appeal.
Olatobura told the court that parties in the matter had found a political solution to their problems and had also signed an agreement to withdraw the appeal.
According to him, the appeal is being withdrawn in the interest of peace and as part of the agreement reached by parties. The respondents in the appeal confirmed that they were served with the notice of withdrawal and would not object to the notice of withdrawal. Consequently, the court dismissed the appeal, having been withdrawn by the appellants.
