Widely celebrated as a consummate professional, inspirational newsroom leader, and accomplished media strategist, Akingbehin exits the Agency with a legacy defined by excellence, integrity, dedication, and transformative storytelling.

In an emotional farewell message released on Tuesday, the former DEIC Multimedia, Lagos, described her years at NAN as “a remarkable and unforgettable journey filled with growth, learning, friendship, and impactful service to humanity.”

According to her, NAN was far more than a workplace, describing the organisation as a family and nurturing institution that played a defining role in shaping both her professional and personal life.

“Though I may be withdrawing my service from the Agency, the love, bond, and relationships built over the years will forever remain with me,” she said.

Akingbehin expressed deep appreciation to the management of NAN, editorial leadership, senior colleagues, and members of staff in Lagos and Abuja for their unwavering support, cooperation, and encouragement throughout her distinguished career.

She paid special tribute to members of her Multimedia Team, whom she described as family for over 17 years, applauding their professionalism, loyalty, teamwork, shared sacrifices, and memorable experiences that made the journey rewarding and fulfilling.

Before joining NAN in 2008, Akingbehin had already established herself as a respected voice in Nigerian journalism during her time with the Lagos State Broadcasting Service, where she served as the pioneer Abuja Head of Bureau for Radio Lagos/Eko FM.

Her journalism career also saw her excel in strategic beats including the Capital Market, National Assembly, and State House, earning admiration for her depth, professionalism, and outstanding reportage.

At NAN, she further distinguished herself as Health and Labour Correspondent, representing Nigeria at several high-profile international engagements, including conferences organised by the International Labour Organization and the World Health Organization in Geneva.

The veteran broadcaster also paid glowing tribute to the late Dame Oluremi Oyo, whom she credited for creating the opportunity that transformed her multimedia journalism career through the establishment of NAN Radio.

Beyond the newsroom, Akingbehin earned recognition for her leadership and advocacy within the journalism profession, serving as former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), NAN Chapel, Immediate Past Vice President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), South-West Zone, and former Vice President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union.

An alumna of the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program, she noted that journalism had opened doors to immense opportunities, international exposure, and invaluable experiences that continue to shape her journey in public service and strategic communication.

Akingbehin currently serves as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the APC Chairman in Lagos State, where she continues to deploy her vast media expertise in governance, political communication, and public engagement.

“As I step into another phase of life, I carry with me cherished memories, invaluable experiences, and deep appreciation for every individual who contributed to my growth and success over the years,” she stated.

She also wished the News Agency of Nigeria and its workforce greater success, continued excellence, and sustained progress, while thanking colleagues, friends, and associates for being part of what she described as an extraordinary and fulfilling professional journey.
