The Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has charged residents and shop owners of Ajiran Community in Eti-Osa Local Government area to take responsibility for their wastes by patronising assigned PSP operators and paying their waste bills promptly.
Odumboni, who gave the charge at a meeting with the Monarch of Ajiran Community, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, representatives of CDAs/CDCs and other stakeholders in the community, expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the environment, imploring the participants to mobilise youths to police the blackspots in the axis.
He stressed that there is nowhere in the world that waste services are free, warning that further environmental infractions by community residents would attract the full weight of the law.
The Chief Technical Officer, LAWMA, Dr. Olohunwa Tijani, also charged the residents to support the Authority towards achieving a clean and sustainable environment.
According to him, some shops have already been sealed in the neighbourhood for reckless waste disposal and other environmental infractions as a deterrent to would-be defaulters.
Responding, the Monarch of Ajiran Community, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, lauded LAWMA Boss and other management members for their efforts at keeping Lagos clean for the benefit of the masses.
He promised to mobilise stakeholders in the community to join hands with the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in ensuring full compliance with the environmental laws of the State and to keep their surroundings clean.
Other LAWMA officials present at the meeting included the Assistant General Manager East District, Mr. Adesina Adewale; Assistant General Manager, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Mrs. Bola Adewunmi; Head of Advocacy Unit; Mr. Victor Adedeji; Head of ICT Unit and Mr. Tosin Olaniyan, among others.
