LASG pledges support for FRSC operations

FRSC boss, Boboye Oyeyemi

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to render necessary support to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in ensuring safety and ease of movement on Lagos roads.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde pledged the support at the 2019 Sectoral Workshop for Special Marshals in Lagos.

Applauding the immense contributions of the volunteer arm of the FRSC towards the achievement of the Corps’ goals, the Commissioner asserted that the Special Marshals must embrace technology in their operations in order to meet the demands of the evolving society.

Oladeinde opined that technology has become a necessary tool for efficient traffic management, observing that Lagos had since commenced the use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to capture information and run a check on the vehicle’s status, thereby reducing human interface and encouraging voluntary compliance on the part of citizens.

According to him, “Transportation is the engine of any economy, as such the present the administration is focused on transportation and traffic management which is the first pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda. But we are not unaware that a lot still needs to be done in the transport sector”.

He called for more voluntary enrolment into the FRSC to reinforce its commitment to traffic regulation and safety on roads, maintaining that the volunteers will complement the inadequate number of regular officers across the country.
