The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has charged teachers in the State to keep to the tenet of punctuality notwithstanding the economic situation in the country.
The Teachers and Students were also enjoined to ensure that the investment of the State Government in the education sector continues to yield the desired result.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun stated this during an unscheduled visit to some schools around Iganmu, Orile and Surulere axis of the State. He was accompanied on the tour by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji and Directors from the Ministry.
Alli-Balogun, who started the tour from Sari Iganmu Grammar School at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, frowned at the late resumption of some teachers and the unkempt environment of the school compound.
At the Metropolitan Nursery and Primary School, he implored the School Head to release excess and unused school furniture to other schools in need of them. This, according to him, will help to solve the problem of inadequate furniture in some schools in the area.
While acknowledging the interventions of the Parents Forum at Araromi Junior High School, Sari Iganmu, the Commissioner charged school administrators to seek more partnerships with Old Students Associations and Corporate Bodies to reduce dependence on the State Government and ensure that school needs are promptly met.
At Eric Moore Junior and Senior Grammar School, Surulere, the Commissioner promised to ensure the completion of the ongoing new block of classrooms to provide more comfort for teachers and students of the school.
At the Government College Lagos, Eric More, Mr. Alli-Balogun appreciated the clean school environment and directed the school teachers to ensure more effective management of the plastic waste in the school.
He also enjoined schools within the same location to co-share facilities such as ICT Laboratories donated by Individuals or Organisations. This, according to the Commissioner, will increase the spread of benefits derivable from such facilities.
The Commissioner also reiterated that the administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has done more in terms of the provision of infrastructure and the creation of a conducive environment for teaching and learning in schools across the State.
He, therefore, charged school administrators, teachers and students to ensure adequate maintenance of the facilities and sustain a clean and healthy environment in schools.
