As part of the efforts to cater to the welfare of students in Lagos state and to curb insecurity in students environments, the Lagos state wing of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) visited the Lagos State Taskforce, to seek improved security for students and a lasting relationship that would encourage smooth adherence to law and order in the state.
The students who decried previous harassment and misrepresentation by security agencies appealed to the police force to create a synergy that would foster peace and security in the state. According to them, this relationship is expected to foster proper coordination and swift passage of information that would prevent misunderstanding and harassment between both bodies.
The students, through their chairman, Tolulope Olusesi, during the meeting yesterday, tasked the agency with constituting a student taskforce committee to act as information agents around campuses in the state.
The Chairman of the Agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye, who reacted to the student’s concerns, appreciated the students for making efforts in ensuring their environment is safe and secure for them to carry out their academic duties without any form of hindrance. He assured the students of the agency’s support and urged them to go on with their academic activities peacefully and shun any form of criminal activity.
“I appreciate your ingenuity and initiative in fostering harmony in our society. I will give you all the necessary support you need to succeed and ensure that all issues brought up are dealt with holistically. You are the leaders of tomorrow so it is only right for us to make sure that nothing hampers the process of attaining greatness for the Nigerian student”.
“You have started out on a beautiful note and I urge you to carry on this way. Exhibit decency in everything you do because in life, you will either be remembered for the problem you caused or the problem you solved. We will support you and guide you to know that crime is not a career” he said.
