Lagos State Fire Service Hosts Annual Staff Engagement

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) recently held its 2025 Annual Staff Engagement at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa. The Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Gbenga Oyerinde, commended LSFRS officers for their unwavering dedication to fire safety and emergency response. He also acknowledged the continuous support of Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu’s administration in strengthening fire service operations.

Highlighting key achievements under the current administration, the Commissioner, who was represented at the event by the Director of Administration, Mr. Olumide Williams, commended and highlighted the achievements of the Agency which include the commissioning of new fire stations at Ijede and Ijegun-Egba, bringing the total to 10 new stations built by the Sanwo-Olu administration.

Others, according to him, are the successful hosting of the inaugural Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 1.0, improving welfare packages for firefighters and the signing into law of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Bill, enhancing fire safety regulations.

While celebrating these milestones, the Commissioner also addressed ongoing challenges, including prank calls, attacks on firefighters, and restricted access to emergency sites and called for collective efforts to overcome them.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Tunde Ogundeko (mni), emphasised the critical importance of properly handling and maintaining firefighting equipment to ensure its effectiveness in emergencies.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Director of LSFRS, Mrs. Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, reviewed the service’s performance in 2024, reporting 1,925 fire-related calls and 578 false alarms. She urged officers to strive for even greater efficiency and responsiveness in 2025.

A major highlight of the event was the recognition of retired fire officers for their years of dedicated and selfless service. Additionally, promoted officers were decorated with their new ranks, while outstanding personnel received awards for exemplary performance, reinforcing the Agency’s commitment to excellence.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives, property, and the environment. This annual engagement provided a platform for reflection, strategic planning, and renewed dedication to service delivery in 2025.
