The Lagos State Government on Monday intensified its enforcement drive against environmental violations, sealing two residential facilities in Eti-Osa and clearing illegal street traders at 2nd Rainbow Junction, Mile 2.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that officials of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) sealed EMCEL Court-Phase I and Well Stock Apartments, both located on Lantana Avenue, Ikota GRA, for deliberately discharging wastewater into public drains and the environment.
He explained that such infractions posed serious risks.
“The discharge of wastewater into public drains constitutes public nuisance, environmental pollution, and endangers human life,” Wahab said.
Earlier in the day, the Commissioner also announced the dislodgement of illegal traders operating around 2nd Rainbow Junction, inward Mile 2.
“Our enforcement team is currently dislodging illegal street traders constituting nuisance at 2nd Rainbow Junction. These activities obstruct traffic flow, endanger pedestrians, and litter the environment.
“We remain committed to keeping our roads safe, clean, and free of all forms of environmental infractions,” he stated.
Wahab urged Lagos residents to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices, stressing that collective responsibility was crucial for sustainable urban living.
“Lagosians are enjoined to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability,” he added.
The enforcement actions are part of the state’s Zero Tolerance and Cleaner Lagos campaigns aimed at ensuring compliance with environmental regulations while promoting a healthier and safer city.
