The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has launched a three-day induction programme for 1,500 newly recruited post-primary school teachers, aimed at equipping them with the tools and mindset to thrive in a fast-evolving educational landscape.
With the theme “Leading Learning in a Fast Evolving World,” the programme is designed to reinforce modern teaching methods, promote continuous professional development, and align teachers with the state’s educational priorities.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Establishment, Training, Pension and Public Service, Hon. Oladele Ajayi, described the induction as a critical step in strengthening the teaching profession in Lagos.
“This programme is part of a broader effort to improve the quality of education in the state,” Ajayi said. “It is designed to equip and reorient teachers with the ethics, values, and competencies required for modern classroom instruction.”
He urged the inductees to embrace technology as an essential tool in the delivery of quality education, noting that the evolving digital world demands innovation and adaptability from today’s educators.
“Your role as educators is to be remembered as agents of change shaping future leaders. Technology is no longer optional—it is central to delivering impactful teaching. With it, we can think locally and act globally,” he added.
Also addressing the gathering, TESCOM Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Peregrino, underscored the significance of continuous learning in the teaching profession you are in the most important profession—building other professionals,” Peregrino said.
“The knowledge and values you instil in your students will shape their future and, by extension, the society.”
She expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to education through the T.H.E.M.E.S+ development agenda, which places human capital and educational reform at the heart of state policy.
Earlier, TESCOM Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, highlighted the importance of the induction programme as a platform for exposing newly recruited teachers—who have undergone rigorous screening—to emerging trends in school administration.
“You are not just teachers; you are mentors and policy drivers. Your impact will go beyond the classroom,” she said. “This is an opportunity to align your passion with the state’s educational goals.”
The induction is taking place simultaneously at three centres across Lagos and is being conducted in collaboration with Nurture House Consulting, a move that reflects TESCOM’s commitment to leveraging expert partnerships for teacher development.
