Lagos once again lived up to its reputation as Africa’s leading creative hub as the 2025 edition of Detty December unfolded across the city with energy, innovation and record-breaking activity.
This year’s festivities reflected not only the dynamism of the city’s youthful creative community but also the Lagos State Government’s deliberate support for arts, culture and entertainment under the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
Government officials say Lagos’ success story is rooted in the THEMES development agenda, which continues to drive progress across key sectors—entertainment, tourism, transportation, technology, fashion, and small-scale enterprise. The synergy, they note, is helping to create new opportunities for both formal and informal players and expanding the state’s economic footprint locally and globally.
Beyond cultural vibrancy, Lagos has also strengthened its economic base by increasing internally generated revenue, attracting private-sector investment and deepening international confidence in its business environment. The state continues to position itself as a self-sustaining sub-national economy with reduced dependence on federal allocations.
This year’s Detty December further reinforced that standing. From large-scale concerts and fashion showcases to bustling nightlife and community festivals, Lagos successfully hosted hundreds of events that drew visitors from across Nigeria and beyond. The ripple effect was visible—hotels recorded high occupancy, small businesses saw increased patronage, and transport services experienced a significant surge.
Stakeholders say the achievements are a result of sustained government investment in security, transportation upgrades, event infrastructure and strong public–private collaboration.
The Lagos APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, commended the creative professionals driving the sector—entertainers, content producers, designers, digital innovators and hospitality operators—describing their efforts as the “engine of Lagos’ cultural economy.”
According to the party, the Sanwo-Olu administration will continue to expand support for the creative economy, strengthen tourism infrastructure and broaden opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the coming year.
“Lagos has shown once again that creativity, when supported by responsive governance, can generate immense cultural and economic value,” the statement noted.
