It was a black Thursday in Oshodi as one of the popular markets engulfed in flames late night after the closure of business of the day.

A press statement issued by the media office of Chairman Oshodi Local Government read; In curtailing the inferno from consuming the entire market, the council authority under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Idris Bolaji Muse who reacted swiftly by contacting the necessary agencies such as Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service and Police for a quick response which later helped to curtailed the spread of the inferno.

The council helmsman whose responsive government at the grassroots, in the early hours of Friday visited the scene of the incident where he sympathized with the traders and community on the huge loss suffered due to the fire outbreak.

Hon. Ariyoh who was in the company of the Lagos State Police Commissioner, CP Hakeem Odumosu ascertained the level of damage that occurred, he expressed his pain on the losses suffered while he assured the traders that the issue will be tabled before Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu for necessary palliative or support to indemnify the traders on the account of their goods that got destroyed during the inferno.

While fielding questions from journalists at the scene of the inferno, the council chairman allayed fear amongst the traders and the community of explosive devices being planted around the market, stated that the security and emergency agencies were on their toes to ensure that any break down of law and order within the market and entire community of Oshodi is forestall.

While he used the medium to appreciate the Lagos State Government, RRS, and Lagos state Fire service for their quick and proactive response which helped to prevent the inferno from gulping the entire market.

In the same direction, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu who was also at the scene for evaluation of damage done and proper investigation of what occurred promised the traders that his team will conduct a proper investigation as the necessary team have been deployed.

He said further that the explosive device found in the market will be properly analyzed and necessary action will be taken to forestall future occurrence.

He charged the market traders to be more vigilant and not to panic as there is no security threat.

The Baba Oloja General of oshodi , Provida Abdul Rasaq, who is also the developer of the Kairo Market in a brief, gave account of what happened at the market and in a categorical statement said that the inferno that gulped the market wasn’t as a result of power supply as it the tradition of the market to always switch off main power to the market from the transformer by 6 Pm daily and reconnect the following day by 10 am which was maintained as at the time the fire outbreak occurred.

He appreciated the government both at the state and local for their support and also for identifying with the traders during this grief moment of colossal damage occasioned by the fire outbreak that destroyed the Market.

He promised that immediately after all necessary investigations are completed that normalcy will return.
