*THEME: “TO REBUILD, REPOSITION AND TO REGAIN ’*

On behalf of the newly elected Executive Members of our Great Union, I dedicate this mandate to the Almighty God who it has pleased to make this transition process to be seamless, peaceful and successful. I want to specially thank God Almighty for granting us this opportunity to serve our great Union, NUJ, Information Chapel.

On this note, we give all glory to God and we commit NUJ, Information into his able and capable hands.

Dear senior colleagues and my contemporaries, I stand before you this day, humbled by the mandate you just gave to me and the new executives to lead this great Union at this crucial time in the Chapel’s political history. We wholeheartedly accept this mandate with extreme gratitude to you for the confidence reposed in us. Our emergence is an eloquent confirmation of the fact that you believe in our ability and capacity to deliver, and we shall not let you down.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, what we are all witnessing today, is the consolidation of the giant strides and history that our Great Union was known for.

By my understanding, the mandate you have given us today is clear and unambiguous. It is to return our Union to the past glory, where there is Love, Passion, Commitment, Mutual Understanding and Due Diligence.

As Herculean as this mandate seems, I know it’s achievable. My campaign pillars for this election are *‘To Rebuild, Reposition and Regain’.* Let me assure you great members and leaders of our Union, that by the grace of God and with all hands on deck, we shall Guide the Mandate Jealously, in order to save our beloved Union from disintegration, just as we therefore have a gigantic task ahead of us in moving Lagos Information Chapel Forward.

With your mandate I assure you, that all necessary steps will be taken and we are now set to forge a new path for our great Union.

Under my watch, we shall constitute various steering committees, that will be liasing with the Executive Members and entire members of the Union on how best to move the Union forward. Likewise, we shall work hard to put issues of Training and Re-Training of Members, Welfare, Re- Union of the aggrieved Members and many others on the front burner through constitution of various notable committees in this regard.

I cannot end this address without acknowledging my co-contestant for the chairmanship position, Mr Jamiu Hazan. Truth be told, any of us is eminently qualified to lead this Union.

I thank you for a worthy contest and being part of history as this marks the first time such a highly competitive contest to produce the leadership of our Union will be held in Information Chapel.

I have every reason to stand tall and I now extend my hand of fellowship to you all. Let us put this election behind us and work together to move our great union forward.

*I urge you all to support us and let ‘US’ Rebuild, Reposition & Regain,” together.

I implore you to rally round the new Executives because we cannot do it alone.

Agbajowo ni afin soya…

In the same vein, I thank the Management of our Great Ministry, the Ministry of Information and Strategy. We will forever remember your courageous leadership in our most trying times.

I will not forget to profoundly and most sincerely appreciate the outgoing Executive Members for laying a solid foundation for us to build on.

Also, I extend my heartfelt commendation to the Credentials Committee for a job well done and for organizing a free, fair and credible election. Thank you so very much!

Finally, in accepting this mandate, I am guided by the words of the 19th President of the United States of America, Rutherford Hayes who said in 1877 and i quote: “He serves his party best, who serves his country best.”

In closing, I stand here to assure you that I will serve this great union to the best of my ability. I am passionate about making a positive difference. Myself and members of the new executives are rearing to go. We will do all that should be done to provide purposeful leadership and galvanize members towards positive action and positive difference. All we require is your support and we shall deliver!

God bless you all.

Long live the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Long Live the Lagos State Government.

Long Live NUJ Lagos Information Chapel

I thank you all for listening.
