Lagos APC Reviews 2025, Defends Reforms, Accuses Opposition of Undermining National Interest

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described 2025 as a defining year marked by far-reaching reforms, intense resistance, and what it termed a critical test of national patriotism.

In a year-end review issued on Wenesday, the party said the outgoing year compelled Nigerians to confront “hard truths” about governance, leadership courage, and the conduct of political actors opposed to the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the Lagos APC, 2025 represented a period of unavoidable structural adjustment, as the Tinubu administration embarked on what it described as difficult but necessary reforms aimed at dismantling decades of fiscal indiscipline, economic distortions, and entrenched rent-seeking practices.

“These reforms were not cosmetic,” the party said, noting that they targeted long-standing privileges and networks that benefited from systemic inefficiencies. It argued that previous administrations either sustained such practices or failed to address them decisively.

The party acknowledged that the reforms generated resistance but alleged that a segment of the political class went beyond legitimate opposition to what it characterised as deliberate sabotage. According to the statement, some political actors “weaponised hardship” and projected Nigeria as a failing state, both locally and internationally, in pursuit of narrow political ambitions.

The Lagos APC maintained that Nigeria’s challenges in 2025 transcended economic and security concerns, describing the period as a “crisis of patriotism.” It accused critics of opposing every reform measure, exaggerating short-term difficulties, and undermining public confidence for political gain.

Despite these pressures, the party said the country recorded early signs of progress. It cited improvements in fiscal discipline, efforts to block revenue leakages, renewed investor interest, advancement of key infrastructure projects, and intensified security interventions.

“These outcomes were achieved not because the path was easy, but because leadership remained resolute in the face of intimidation, blackmail, and disinformation,” the statement said.

The Lagos APC stressed that true patriotism is demonstrated during periods of national difficulty rather than comfort, adding that history would distinguish between constructive criticism and actions intended to weaken the state.

It further argued that sustainable nation-building requires sacrifice, discipline, and commitment to the collective good, warning that no country can develop when national hardship is exploited as a political strategy.

As Nigeria moves forward, the party urged citizens to reflect on what it described as a clear choice between reform and regression, resilience and resistance.

“Nigeria will emerge stronger,” the statement concluded, “not because opposition to reform has disappeared, but because tested patriotism will ultimately prevail.”

The statement was signed by Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, Spokesman, Lagos State APC, and dated December 24, 2025.
