The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the ongoing wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party as a clear sign of the opposition’s total collapse, declaring that what the PDP is currently experiencing is “only the beginning of its political implosion.”
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the APC Spokesman in Lagos State, Hon. Seye Oladejo, said the PDP’s attempt to dismiss the defections as inconsequential “betrays the party’s chronic state of denial, delusion, and self-deception.”
According to Oladejo, the current mass exodus from the PDP is not a random political migration but a direct consequence of years of deceit, internal betrayal, and the absence of any coherent ideology.
“When a house is built on quicksand, it doesn’t take much for it to collapse. What is happening to the PDP today is simply the result of a party that has refused to reform or offer a credible alternative to Nigerians,” he said.
The Lagos APC maintained that the PDP’s long history of propaganda and mismanagement during its 16 years in power continues to haunt it, stressing that Nigerians are now more politically aware and unwilling to return to a party “that squandered the nation’s fortunes.”
Oladejo added that the recent defections to the APC reflect growing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is already producing visible results across key sectors of the economy.
“The PDP’s so-called unity is nothing but a fragile alliance of opportunists united only by desperation for power,” he continued. “The few members who remain are merely staying behind to perform the final rites of a once-dominant but now lifeless political carcass.”
The ruling party advised the PDP to confront its internal decay rather than issuing what it called “hollow press statements.”
“Rather than pretending all is well, the PDP should conduct an honest post-mortem of its failures and accept that its relevance in Nigeria’s political space has drastically declined,” the statement read.
Concluding, Oladejo said the APC views the wave of defections as a strong endorsement of its performance and governance philosophy.
> “For the APC, these defections are not just political victories — they are validations of our party’s enduring commitment to national renewal and people-centered leadership. Nigerians are speaking loudly, and the message is clear: the era of deceitful opposition politics is over,” he declared.
