KANO: Troops Repel Bandits, Neutralize 19 in Fierce Gun Battle — Army

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled a bandits’ incursion into Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, protecting several vulnerable communities from attack.

According to a statement signed by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, the operation followed a credible intelligence tip-off on the movement of bandits around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse axis of Shanono at about 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025.

Troops, supported by other security agencies, swiftly mobilized to the area and engaged the bandits in a heavy exchange of gunfire, forcing them to retreat. The criminals, who arrived on motorcycles, reportedly suffered severe casualties, with 19 bandits neutralized during the encounter.

Recovered items included several motorcycles and two mobile phones, while two gallant soldiers and one member of the local vigilante group were killed in action.

The statement added that further clearance operations are ongoing in the general area to prevent renewed attacks, particularly on communities that have faced repeated incidents of cattle rustling.

Commander of the 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Kano State and across the North-West, pledging continued collaboration with other security agencies.

The Army urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to security authorities.
