Isaac Fayose Episode Raises Questions Over Peter Obi’s Leadership Temperament — Seye Oladejo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Seye Oladejo, has argued that the recent public disagreement between social media influencer Prince Isaac Fayose and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reignited debate over the leadership qualities required to govern Nigeria.

In a statement titled “Of Isaac Fayose’s Sneeze and Peter Obi’s Cold: Nigeria Says No to Leadership That Panics,” Oladejo said leadership is best judged by how individuals respond to pressure, criticism and uncertainty rather than carefully managed public appearances.

He referenced the recent fallout between Fayose and Obi, noting that the influencer had publicly criticised the former Anambra State governor before the two later reconciled following Obi’s visit.

According to Oladejo, while reconciliation is a normal aspect of politics, the speed and manner of Obi’s intervention raised questions about his political confidence and emotional resilience.

The APC chieftain argued that the Nigerian presidency demands calmness, consistency and the ability to withstand intense political pressure without reacting impulsively to criticism.

Oladejo also alleged that Obi has a history of leaving political parties during periods of internal crisis, citing his movements from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Drawing a contrast with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he said the administration has remained focused on implementing economic reforms despite criticism, pointing to improvements in public revenue, infrastructure development, investor confidence and ongoing security operations as signs of progress.

He further maintained that social media popularity does not necessarily translate into electoral success, citing the outcome of recent off-cycle elections, including the Ekiti State governorship poll, as evidence that online support differs from actual voting patterns.

Oladejo concluded that Nigerians would face a choice in 2027 between what he described as leadership rooted in resilience, reforms and steadfastness, and one driven by reaction, optics and social media validation.

He maintained that Nigeria requires leaders who remain composed under pressure and focused on long-term national development rather than responding to every wave of political criticism.
