Ikeja Chairman Endorses Paid Parking Scheme, Calls for Increased Public Awareness

The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has thrown his weight behind the Lagos State Parking Authority’s (LASPA) proposed On-Street Parking Scheme, pledging the council’s full support following a strategic meeting with the agency’s management team.

Dauda emphasized the importance of robust public sensitisation ahead of the rollout, noting that widespread understanding of the initiative’s benefits would enhance compliance among residents and motorists.

Speaking during the engagement, LASPA General Manager, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed that the scheme is scheduled for a pilot phase in 2026 across Ikeja and select local government areas. She explained that the initiative is designed to improve traffic flow, promote parking discipline, and generate employment opportunities, with motorists expected to pay for designated on-street parking spaces.

Both the Ikeja LGA leadership and LASPA management reaffirmed their commitment to close collaboration to ensure the successful and seamless implementation of the scheme.
