The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye has commended the Organisers of the Igbogbopedia Quiz Competition for their foresight in developing the intellects of students in the community.
The Igbogbopedia Quiz Competition, which is a long-standing educational programme, is being sponsored by the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area to serve as a platform for nurturing academic excellence and inspiration for young learners within the community.
Speaking at a reception organised for the winners of the 2024 quiz competition at the District Headquarters, Maryland, Mrs. Adekanye noted that the Council has, over the years, demonstrated its commitment to fostering academic excellence and community development.
She noted further that the competition, organised annually by the Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, showcased the intellectual prowess of secondary school students across the LCDA.
“This initiative is one of its kind, and I appreciate the vision and commitment of the Igbogbo Baiyeku Local Council Development Area for the support given to this project. This will go a long way in inspiring the students to aim higher in their education pursuit”, she expressed.
Historically, winners of the competition were awarded an international trip as their grand prize. However, this year marked a significant shift in focus. After extensive research revealed that previous winners struggled financially to pursue further education, the council decided to replace the trip with a substantial cash prize of One Million Naira aimed at providing greater support for the educational aspirations of the winners.
After intense and rigorous struggles in the Igbogbopedia competition, Miss. Adijat Dauda of Community Senior Secondary School, Baiyeku, clinched the first position with a cash prize of One Million Naira, while Precious Olanrewaju of Lagos State Girls Senior Model College, Agunfoye and Taiwo Isreal of Zumratu Islamiyya Senior Grammar School came second and third, respectively. Also, Miss. Adijat Dauda came first in the Mathematics and English Competition, beating others from both Public and Private Secondary Schools in the LCDA.
Mrs. Adekanye applauded Miss. Adijat Dauda and other winners for the brilliant performance they displayed during the competition. “I congratulate the winners of this year’s competition and urge you to continue in your efforts to attain academic excellence. You have made us proud”, she stated.
