The Executive Chairman, Hon. Saheed Adesegun Bankole has encouraged the youths in Eti-Osa to take advantage of the periodical Empowerment Training Programme organised by the Council and become the best versions of themselves.

This statement was made at the graduation ceremony held on Wednesday at the Local Government Vocational Training Centre located at Ikota Primary School, Ikota, Eti-Osa LG.

The Council Mayor who was represented by the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Hon. Idayat Eletu, congratulated the graduands who made up the 30 beneficiaries of the laudable programme.

He said they were already a step and more loaded with the skills they had acquired from the training and urged them to make good use of the skills learnt and become better persons in the future. In his words, ‘’what you have learnt in the past few weeks might seem insignificant but I bet you can go places if you are determined and hardworking and improve by making good use of what has been instilled into you,’’ he said.

The Executive Chairman assured the community that empowering the youths of Eti-Osa is one of his administration’s top agenda. He emphasised that he and his team (the Legislative, Executives and other key functionaries in the LG)are determined to better the lives of the youths in the community. He said they must keep imparting lives, hence, the periodical training programmes aimed at capacity building and providing vocational skills to enable them be successful and live up to standards.

He said, ‘’My team and I are bent on providing a conducive environment for our youths to be creative, innovative and flourish because the progress of a nation is dependent on the functionality and resourcefulness of its people.’’

The APC leader in Eti-Osa, Alhaji Muibi Jamiu was equally present at the event to celebrate with the grandaunts. He reminded the youths that it is pertinent to realise early in life that they must live purposeful and fulfilling lives. He therefore advised them not to sell off the empowerment materials given to them nor spend the cash gifts on frivolities, rather to channel them to improving on what they’ve learnt and establish themselves. He discouraged them from seeking for fast means of making money through dubious means.

The Supervisor for Works and Housing, Hon. Maiyegun Abiodun, advised the youths never to despise little beginnings as the training they acquired and the empowerment materials distributed can go a long way to changing their status for good. He, however, urged them to look inwards, identify their innate abilities and harness them for long term gains and survival. He reiterated that when the youths are empowered, they become more confident, creative, innovative and will keep busy and away from criminal behaviours.

Over 30 youths were trained and empowered at the programme. The three departments; Catering, Fashion Design and ICT were handled by different coaches in the various fields and there emerged 3 best participants from each departments who went away with materials like Scanfrost Gas cookers, Sewing Machines, HP laptops and some cash gifts.

Present also at the event were some Legislative and Supervisory Councillors, SAs, SSAs, management staff and Political leaders in Eti-Osa Local Government.
