It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Chief Omololu Olunloyo, former Governor of Oyo State, announce his passing. He was 90 years old at the time of his demise.
As a respected nonagenarian, he also held the revered titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife.
The nonagenarian passed away in the early hours of Sunday.
His death was confirmed in a statement signed by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi, a former Editor of the Nigerian Tribune.
The statement reads, “With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician and engineer and renowned technocrat, a few days before his 90th birthday.
“The Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, Dr. Olunloyo, was the first Rector, Ibadan Polytechnic and first Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, among other notable appointments. His long record of service to the nation and humanity is a source of pride to his family and associates, even as we come to grip with this devastating event.
Victor Omololu Sowemimo Olunloyo (14 April 1935 – 5 April 2025) was a Nigerian mathematician and politician who served as Governor of Oyo State from 1 October 1983 to 31 December 1983.
