FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Flamingos’ Usani eyes Colombia scalp

Following  Nigeria’s quarter-final defeat of the USA,  Flamingos defender Miracle Usani believed the team is primed for the final at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos edged favourite USA 4-3 on penalties after playing 1-1 at full time in the quarterfinal to become the first Nigeria women’s team to qualify for the semifinal at the FIFA World Cup.

On Wednesday, Flamingoes will take on Colombia in the first semifinal and a confident Usani has tipped the Nigerian girls for the final ahead of the South American side.

“I believe we can get to the final. If we can beat the USA, I don’t see any obstacle standing in our way,” Usani told FIFA.

Recalling the tension during the penalty shootout against the Americans, Usani said: “I was so relieved. I feel much better now, I’m so happy that I was given a second chance. I really wanted to score the second, so I’m happy,” Usani said after the game.

“The game led me up to that moment. It ended up going to penalties and I needed to step up and take responsibility,” she said. “It was just about winning the game. That’s exactly what we had to do, and that was the key to our victory.”
