The House of Representatives Committee on Finance has emphasized the pivotal role of its engagement with various Federal Government agencies in bolstering revenue generation for the nation.

Rt Hon James Abiodun Faleke, Chairman of the Committee, made the announcement in Abuja during the Committee’s quarterly revenue monitoring exercise with Federal Government agencies, which was postponed to Wednesday, next week.

Representatives from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Ministry of Finance Incorporated, and the Debt Management Office attended the National Assembly committee for the exercise.

In his concise address prior to adjourning the session to Wednesday, May 15th, Faleke, the representative for Ikeja Federal Constituency, cited a communication gap as the reason for the Committee’s failure to convene with the agencies. He assured attendees that this shortfall would be rectified on the rescheduled date.

“We monitor to ensure that we have revenue on a quarterly basis so that where we have issues, we can address them. We don’t want a situation where at the end of the year, we don’t have monies to fund our budget. We started this (monitoring of revenue) as a committee and it has assisted the country in our revenue generation.

“There was a communication gap and that is why, we have to adjourn today. We will return on Wednesday for this exercise. We are sorry, Faleke said.”

That said, the All Progressives Congress chieftain also hinted that the House would not sit on Tuesday owing to the death on Friday of one of its members, Mr Isa Dogonyaro.

“Dogonyaro, 46, who represented Babura/Garki Federal Constituency, Jigawa State died on Friday in Abuja after a brief illness.

“The House will not convene tomorrow due to the loss of our esteemed member, Honourable Isa Dogonyaro from Jigawa State. We will reconvene on Wednesday to resume our proceedings,” he added.
