The Honorable Commissioner Information & Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso has pledged the support of the Lagos State government for the initiative of Rotarian Olatunji Emmanuel Okedeyi to embark on a motorbike ride from London to Lagos to create awareness and raise fund for the eradication of polio, the campaign is tagged “End Polio Now”.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to his office by Rotarian Okedeyi and the End Polio Now project director, Mrs Tolu Daramola, the Honourable Commissioner said polio is a dangerous disease that requires the collective efforts of everyone to combat.
He described the project as an interesting and laudable move in creating awareness most especially across countries on the route and saluted the initiative and courage of rider/campaigner of the End Polio Now project.
Briefing the Commissioner on the details of the trip, Okedeyi said that it was intended to raise awareness for End Polio Now, and mobibilse at least One Hundred thousand Pounds for polio eradication.
The road trip according to him will commence at Kent in London and run through France- Spain- Morrocco-Mauritania- Guinea- Senegal-Ghana- Togo-Benin Republic to Nigeria. To raise the fund Okedeyi will visit all the Rotary Clubs in the country on his route.
Upon arrival in Nigeria, Okedeyi, who is also the President-elect of Rotary Club, Mushin will as part of activities marking his investiture embark on a medical outreach programmme in partnership with over 50 volunteers at Mushin Local Government on July 17, 2026 during which optical, dental, physiotherapy etc services will be rendered to the public. Medicals worth one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) will be supplied by donors for this mission.
