PWC Chess4Change Annual Chess Tournament is a major component of PwiceWater House Cooper (PWC), Nigeria’s Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, a developmental programme designed to improve strategic and critical thinking skills amongst secondary school students, building their capacity for optimal academic performance as they prepare for the future through chess.

While receiving the winners at the District Headquarters, Maryland, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary/Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye noted that the initiative is being supported by the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Lagos Sports Commission, as well as the Lagos State Chess Association since 2014, with just six schools in the pilot season and currently covers about 18 schools.

She appreciated the Lagos State Government for providing an enabling environment for the all-round development of the students.

Her words, “This performance would not have been possible without the enabling environment being championed by Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education and other stakeholders”.

She congratulated the Students for their feat and equally extended congratulatory messages to the School’s Management for their great achievement.
