Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Agege, Barrister Margaret Titilayo Solarin, in her address at the event, noted that the celebration was initiated to motivate the students and their teachers for better performance and also encourage others, stressing that it was designed to recognise excellence, success, diligence, hard work, dedication, determination and selflessness.

“These groups of students and their handlers had exhibited outstanding zeal in attaining excellence in different fields and at various competitions. It takes competence, commitment, responsibility, focus, determination, creativity, innovation, purpose-driven attitude and the fighting spirit to win laurels at local and international competitions”, Solarin stated.

She said the celebration this year was different from the previous years, as the District has more award recipients and more partners that are collaborating to advance the State’s education sector.

Her words: “Our students are winning more laurels in competitions. We have two of our students that are representing Nigeria in Sweden and this is a great feat for us in the District. The students are performing well, it is a great honour for us and that is why we are celebrating and rewarding them. This is to let them know that we appreciate what they are doing and we want them to do more”.

The TG/PS also acknowledged the teachers for their commitment, zeal, determination and dexterity at making the students showcase their inner talents, saying that they are the backbones of the students being celebrated.

“We highly appreciate our teachers, they are moulding these students. They gave their money, time, resources, creativity, knowledge and creative ideas to make the students attain great feats. I thank them for their selfless contribution to the upliftment of educational standards in the District”, she stated.

Assuring the award recipients that the State Government is fully poised to reward those who have excelled in their profession, Solarin also informed the students that they are being celebrated based on their individual determination to succeed in what they are doing, urging them to keep it up.

“Do not rest on your oars, this is just the beginning, there are many honours awaiting you in the future, in the State, Nigeria, Africa and globally. Continue to do more, we are ready to support and encourage you in whatever you are doing to win more laurels. You can become whatever you want to become as long as you put your mind to do it”, the Tutor-General stated.

She also appreciated the Schools’ Principals and Parents of the students, NGOs and Religious Bodies for their contributions to the success of the day, noting that the District has won several awards and will continue to win more.

One of the award recipients, Joy Ojo, a student of Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School, said she put in much effort to make the district proud in different competitions, disclosing that she trains every day.

She thanked her colleagues, teachers and the school principal for the continuous encouragement and urged other students to continually give in their best and never give up no matter the challenges that come their way.
