LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the accident in a statement on Monday he said preliminary findings showed that an empty NIPCO tanker, registration number TTN-776ZQ, allegedly speeding, rammed into the rider, causing instantaneous death.

“LASTMA officers responded promptly, preventing a breakdown of order as aggrieved riders attempted to attack the tanker driver “Officials rescued the injured driver and handed him over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service for urgent treatment at a nearby hospital.

“Police operatives from Alausa Division restored calm, dispersing the crowd and preventing further violence,” he said.

Bakare-Oki condoled with the victim’s family and urged motorists, especially tanker drivers, to obey speed limits and traffic regulations.

He reiterated that reckless driving and speeding remain major causes of road fatalities in the state.

He added that the tanker and the wrecked motorcycle were handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
