Ganduje took over the party’s leadership in August 2023, following Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation as his predecessor.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has undergone a change in leadership as Ali Bukar Dalori, Deputy National Chairman (North), succeeds Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman. Ganduje’s resignation as party chairman took effect on Thursday.
APC spokesman Felix Morka said in a statement, said “His resignation, which is effective immediately, was offered to enable him attend to urgent and important personal matters,”
“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level.”
According to Morka, Tinubu directed Dalori to assume the position of Acting National Chairman, pending the convening of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to fill the vacancy resulting from Ganduje’s resignation.
Ganduje, hailing from the North-West zone, assumed the party’s leadership in August 2023, following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central zone. His tenure was marked by increasing resistance from within the party, primarily due to concerns that his appointment contravened the party’s internal zoning arrangements.
Furthermore, Ganduje served as governor of Kano from May 2015 to May 2023.
In January 2025, Tinubu appointed him Board Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and he was reportedly shortlisted for a non-career ambassadorial nomination.
