The Lagos State Police Command today Monday arraigned actress, Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband, Bello for hosting a party in violation of the lockdown order in the State.
Actress Akindele-Bello was arrested on Sunday in violation of the lockdown order in the State.
According to the Lagos police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, she is now at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.
Also being charged to court by the police command in Lagos, is Akindele’s husband, JJC SKillz who turned himself in after an order demanding that he makes himself available.
The actress who celebrated her husband’s birthday who turned 43 years old, with persons exceeding twenty in number attending in a lavish house party on Saturday, April 4, was picked up by the police on Sunday at her residence.
Actress Funke Akindele pleaded guilty Monday for violating the social distancing and lockdown rules imposed by Lagos government to stem the coronavirus pandemic.
She was taken to court this morning following her arrest by the police on Sunday.
A Magistrate court sitting in Lagos on Monday sentenced Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello a.k.a JJC skills to 14 days community service each.
The couple will also pay N100,000 each as fine and observe Isolation period for 14 days.
Both Funke and her husband were found guilty of violating the Public gathering directives of the Lagos state government.
The prominent Nigerian actress Funke Akindele has been widely criticised for holding a party during the lockdown imposed to tackle coronavirus.
Akindele has appeared in a Nigeria Centre for Disease Control video to raise awareness about coronavirus.
She had earlier defended the party, saying that everyone who was there had been living in her house for two weeks.
However, her tweet has since been deleted.
Under the lockdown, all gatherings of more than 25 people have been banned in Lagos, Nigeria’s biggest city, which has an estimated population of about 20 million people.
Those seen in the video include singer Naira Marley and actress Eniola Badmus, and some Nigerians have questioned whether they have been living with Akindele and her husband.
Akindele is one of Nigeria’s best-known actresses and came to prominence for her Jenifa, and the series Jenifa’s Diary, broadcast on national TV.
A lockdown was imposed in Lagos, the neighbouring state of Ogun and the capital, Abuja, last week in order to halt the spread of the virus.
