Lagos Central Mosque at Idumota yesterday distributed food items to over 300 people.
State Chief Imam Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla said distribution of palliatives was to cushion effects of the COVID-19 lockdown on residents.
The items distributed include rice, semovita and groundnut oil.
Sheikh Abou-Nolla said the distribution of relief materials would complement government efforts.
According to him, the foodstuff was donated by the son of the late Alhaji Wahab Folawiyo, former Baba Adinni of Lagos, and business mogul Alhaji Tunde Folawiyo.
He thanked Alhaji Folawiyo, the Olori Giwa Adinni of Lagos.
The chief imam urged other wealthy Nigerians to emulate the gesture.
“We need to assist the government by donating foodstuff to the less privileged. The burden to feed all Nigerians will be too much for the government to undertake.
‘’Corporate organisations and wealthy individuals should come on board,” he said.
He urged Lagosians to obey the stay-at-home order.
“Coronavirus is real and knows no religion, tribe or colour. We must come together to contain it and pray to Allah to help eradicate it. It is a fight we all must fight and win as a people,” he said.
Sheikh Abou-Nolla appealed to Muslims to continue to pray at home and avoid gathering for Jumat service.
