Commissioner charges Christian Pilgrims Board members to sustain efficiency

The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi, has charged members of the newly inaugurated Board of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (CPWB) to sustain efficient standards in the discharge of their duties.  
 
Elegushi spoke during the official inauguration of the Board at the State’s Treasury Resource Centre, CBD Alausa, Ikeja, reiterating that the confidence reposed in the appointees by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and urging them to discharge their duties creditably and diligently in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the present administration.
 
His words: “It is no longer news that Lagos State has been adjudged as one of the best States in the country with a good track record of conducting hitch-free pilgrimages with all indices of efficiency and effectiveness. With your inauguration, we expect that you will sustain and build on this legacy of quality service”.
 
“This is another call to duty and an opportunity for you to serve the State just as you have done at various times in your endeavours. Your appointment is a demonstration of Mr. Governor’s confidence in your antecedents, and track record of integrity, impeccable character, competence, experience and passion for public service”, Elegushi stated.
 
Noting that the Board is a creation of the enabling statute of the Agency to ensure effective and efficient pilgrimage operations for Christians in Lagos State, the Commissioner enjoined the Board members and the Management team to work in collaboration and synergy in order to ensure that the objectives of government are achieved.
 
In the same vein, the Commissioner has urged staffers to remain committed to excellent service delivery, while declaring open a one-day retreat with the theme “Effective Communication and Marketing for Qualitative Service Delivery”.
 
He maintained that strategic communication and marketing are essential for winning and gaining the confidence of clients who intend to embark on pilgrimages organised by the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
 
While urging participants to utilise and maximise the opportunity of the retreat by applying the knowledge gained when they return to their duty posts, Elegushi expressed confidence that staff of the agency will be better positioned for quality service delivery at the forthcoming pilgrimage exercise.
 
Also speaking at the retreat, the Board Chairman, Rt. Rev Babatunde Akinpelu-Johnson reiterated the body’s commitment to ensuring that Christian pilgrims in the State enjoy a seamless and hitch-free exercise.
 
Rt. Rev Akinpelu-Johnson noted the State has the highest number of pilgrims in the South-West and gave an assurance that the Board would strive to make Lagos the number one in Nigeria.
 
The Board Chairman expressed gratitude, on behalf of other members, to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the rare opportunity to serve and gave an assurance that they would serve the State diligently.
 
Earlier in his welcome address the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Oluseyi Sewedo Whenu, charged the newly inaugurated Board to take the task ahead as a call to serve.
 
While wishing the members a result-oriented and successful tenure, Whenu advised them to cooperate with one another in the discharge of their duties and pledged the Ministry’s support.
 
He noted that the essence of the retreat was to reawaken a sense of duty in the organisation, just as he emphasised that effective communication and marketing strategies must be deployed for better performance.
 
In her closing remarks, the Board Secretary, Mrs. Florence Yetunde Gbafe, urged the participants to have an open mind and apply whatever learnt during the retreat to the good use of the agency.
 
Mrs. Gbafe thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Sewedo Oluseyi Whenu and the Special Adviser, Rev. Bukola Adeleke for their kind support and cooperation towards the success of the retreat.
