Former President Ibrahim Babangida’s son, Muhammed Babangida, has refuted reports alleging that he declined his appointment as Board Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.

Babangida was reported to have rejected the appointment in a circular dated Monday, July 21, 2025, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu.

In a press statement released on Monday, Babangida dismissed as false and malicious the reports circulating online suggesting he had rejected the appointment, describing such claims as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the Tinubu administration.

He has accepted his appointment as BOA chairman and expressed sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the confidence placed in him.

The statement read: “We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government, and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him,” the statement read in part.

Additionally, the public was assured that the individuals behind the dissemination of the fake reports would be identified and held accountable.

“We also want to assure the public that those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and fostering unity within our nation,” it added.

The statement ended with a call for Nigerians to remain cautious and verify information from reliable sources.

Babangida’s appointment was one of several key appointments approved by President Tinubu to bolster leadership across vital government institutions.

President Tinubu approved Babangida’s appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture on Friday, July 18, 2025.
