The Nigerian Army has described the clash between its personnel and officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) as ‘disturbing’.

In a viral video, some masked soldiers attacked a LASTMA official after the traffic officer allegedly dragged a military personnel out of the front seat of a commercial bus.

LASTMA spokesman Taofeek Adebayo confirmed the development and said that the agency would respond appropriately to the incident.

Meanwhile, Army spokesman, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the incident is very disturbing and that the soldiers and LASMA clash is now one too many.

The Nigerian Army’s authority, according to Nwachukwu, is concerned about the incident and has started a vigorous campaign to sensitise its personnel to the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.

“The authorities of the Nigerian Army are genuinely concerned and are embarking on vigorous sensitisation campaign to educate our personnel on the need to ensure compliance with traffic rules and promote synergy and interagency cooperation in Lagos State and around the country,” Nwachukwu stated.

He noted that the frequent altercations point to the fact that there is a need to strengthen interagency cooperation among the security agencies in Lagos State.

Another video that went viral last week showing an army officer fighting with a LASTMA officer after getting off a commercial minibus named “Korope.” It is unknown what caused the fight between the two law enforcement officers.

The video showed the traffic officer and soldier hitting each other with some civilians trying to intervene.
